80 responses to “Subaru Flex Fuel Is Here!”

    • Hey Ernie, we do not currently have plans to offer a plug and play kit for the GT-R. There are others already available that do a great job and work very well with our GT-R Flex Fuel software.

      Marshall@COBB

  1. “New BETA toggle for disabling the stratified warm-up strategy (16 WRX 6MT/CVT and 16 FXT)”

Will this be available for the ’15 WRX as well?

Also, what’s the timeframe for ’15+ WRX FlexFuel?

    Thanks

    • Hey Marc,

This feature will potentially be available for the 2015 WRX upon further investigation and testing. DIT WRX Flex Fuel is actively being worked on, I would expect to see more developments on that in the next few months!

      Marshall@COBB

    • I believe Deatschwerks claims that pump is ethanol compatible. It’s not one that we tested during our development but I assume it would be up to the task.

      Marshall@COBB

  2. If I am running top feed Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors, will the maps you guys are creating work with my injectors, or would they only work exclusively with the injectors in the kits?
Also, I am anxiously waiting on a kit for the 4th gen Legacy GT. #LegacysMatter

    • Hey Paul, we’ll have more information on that with the release of Flex Fuel OTS maps. In short, you -should- be just fine with the standard ID 1000s.

      Marshall@COBB

  3. So in another post you mentioned that we should expect up to a 10% improvement in power from running e85, which for my 2009 wrx should put me at maybe 320-330 whp/ft lbs(assuming all the planets line up correctly and the car fairy gives me an extra sprinkling of pixy dust.) In your opinion how reliable is the ej255 and 5 speed transmission at that power level? And can I run that much power without messing with the engine internals? Also do you guys have any recommendations for clutches at that power level?

    • Hey Mark!

Exact power output would obviously vary slightly depending on conditions, dyno, and vehicle setups. An employee here with a 2014 WRX recently made around 330whp/380wtq on an E85 tune. That power level proved to be more than the factory clutch could take as it began to slip at higher loads. The car was dialed down a bit to save the clutch and has been perfectly reliable since then. I would say that’s probably about as far as I would take the factory motor and transmission in those cars before reliability becomes a concern.

      Marshall@COBB

    • Hey Jeff,

We’re hoping to finalize Stage3+FF maps for the 2015-2016 STI in the next couple of weeks. 2008-2014 STI maps will come shortly thereafter.

      Marshall@COBB

  4. Any date you think you will have the FF maps out for the 208-2014 sti? This is the only thing holding me back right now from dropping the money on it and every day I think more that I’m not needing it and look for other items to spend the money on.

    • Hey Robert! No updates on the 2008-2014 STI Flex Fuel OTS Maps quite yet. We’ve been dealing with some dyno woes here recently and are hoping to be operational again very soon! – Marshall

  5. I have an 04 STi, so I am waiting for confirmation that Flex Fuel will be released for it before I upgrade from my AP V2 to V3. Will access tuner race support flex fuel, or just pro?

    Thanks,
    -David

    • We had a bit of a set-back with Subaru’s recent recall, I would optimistically estimate a Summer release for DIT Flex Fuel.

      Marshall@COBB

  6. You guys need to stop tickling our you know what and release flex fuel for the 04-07 STI. I know more people who drive those years of cars than the 2008 and up STI’s! Please!!!

  7. Just following up to find out if there has been any news regarding the 05-09 Legacy GT (specifically, i care about the 2007 as I own an ’07 spec.B) as far as Flex Fuel goes. I already have most of the components necessary for this and recently switched over to E85.

If one is not available, i’d even consider bringing my car to you to use for testing if necessary. (i’m in Omaha, NE)

    • Hey Brian, we don’t really have any updates on that front right now. We have been collecting all of the requests and the Legacy crowd definitely has a strong showing. As it currently stands, additional Flex Fuel support would come after both the DIT WRX and GD WRX/STI releases.

      Marshall@COBB

  8. Following up on the progress you guys have made on releasing the flex-fuel sensor for the 06-07 STi model? ETA? I have all the other parts on hand

    Thanks!

    • Hey there, we are still planning to release Flex Fuel for the GD-chassis STi near the end of this year. Once we have completed and released Flex Fuel for the 2015+ DIT WRX we will have a better estimate on a timeline.

      Marshall@COBB

    • We are still shooting to have something available by the end of this summer! Hoping to have some significant updates for everyone in the next month or so.

      Marshall@COBB

  9. i know i asked multiple times, but just really anxious to know when the release for the DIT will be?

    • Hey James, we’re still on pace for a hopeful late-Summer release. Small delay to add vehicle support for the 2017 WRX/STI and then we’ll be right back on Flex Fuel!

      Marshall@COBB

    • That has not yet been decided. I can say that if an OTS map is available, it will likely be limited to around a 30-40% ethanol blend.

      Marshall@COBB

    • That’s a relatively open-ended question. You can, in theory, install the Flex Fuel Ethanol Sensor Kit onto a supported vehicle and have a Flex Fuel tuned car. Most applications will require upgraded fuel system components in order to support the additional required fuel flow from a high ethanol content fuel. So, it really depends on what the vehicle’s setup is and the end goals.

      Marshall@COBB

    • We’re making great progress on both the hardware and software implementations for DIT WRX Flex Fuel. Hoping to have that available as a complete solution in the coming months. We were unfortunately delayed a bit with adding MY2017 vehicle support so our Flex Fuel timeline has slipped a bit.

      Marshall@COBB

  10. Trying not to pester. Checking in again for Flex support on my 2007 spec.B 🙂 My Cobb certified tuner would love to get me in for this…. when available 🙂

    • We do plan to investigate adding Legacy Flex Fuel support after the GD Flex Fuel project is complete. Current timeline slates that investigation for early 2017 at which time we should have a better idea on development efforts and a rough release timeframe.

      Marshall@COBB

  11. sorry i probably commented 10 times on this page, but i can’t wait for the flex fuel kit release for the FA WRX :), any updates?

    • That is definitely not true at all. I drove our shop 2015 WRX with a production Flex Fuel kit and tune just this weekend. It should be released very soon!

      Marshall@COBB

    • For which platform? We’re merely days away from the Subaru DIT release and GD WRX/STI Flex Fuel will likely come in early 2017.

      Marshall@COBB

  12. Any good news on the LGT support, Marshall? Looking forward to blowing my tax refund on something necessary lol.

    • Hey Josh!

It’s next up on the priority list so we’re hoping to have some good news shortly.

      Marshall@COBB

  13. Hey Marshall, I notice on one of the above comments on March 4, 2016 that yall had plans of releasing OTS maps for 2015+ sti Stage 3 FF by the end of march of 2016. So its been almost a year and no OTS map yet. Are yall still planning of releasing a OTS map? If so, when do you think?

    • We do not currently have plans to implement Flex Fuel on the Forester platform however if demand is seen we can certainly look into it.

      Marshall@COBB

  14. 07 Legacy GT spec.B owner following up again. Any news to share? Still plans for this platform or is that getting less likely? (already running straight E85, would really REALLY like to be FLEX)

    • Good news! Legacy Flex Fuel is currently being worked on. Unfortunately not close enough to provide any sort of ETA.

      Marshall@COBB

  15. Been waiting for flex fuel for my Lgt since 09. E85 is not reliable here in North East. I would buy the kit the second it’s available.

    • Hey there! We do not currently have plans to offer a flex-fuel solution for the factory 2002-2005 WRX ECUs.

      Marshall@COBB

    • Hi Boris,

Our original Flex Fuel solution for Subaru vehicles was discontinued last year. We making great progress on a new solution and hope to be able to share some details about it very soon!

      Marshall@COBB
