Addressing Subaru’s DIT ECU Recall

DSC_4963

Subaru has recently issued a recall for some 2014 and 2015 2.0L DIT WRX and Forester XT vehicles. The recall, titled ‘WQW58 2.0 DIT Pre-Ignition Service Program’, updates older DIT ECUs to Subaru’s latest tuning and engine logic strategies. Enter your VIN into Subaru’s Online Tool to see if your vehicle is eligible for the recall.  Subaru is requesting all DIT owners upgrade immediately to avoid possible engine damage or failure.

We do our very best to ensure that each ECU we support, and each OTS map we create, is as safe as we can make it. As such, we are working hard to create updated Accessport firmware, Accesstuner software, and OTS maps to support this new ECU type and incorporate the new ECU logic. This is a large undertaking, but COBB intends to complete the process as quickly as possible.

3/11/2016 – Update – Support Now Available

We have added support for Subaru’s new ECU type being flashed to cars during this process. This includes new Accessport firmware, Accesstuner software, and off-the-shelf (OTS) maps (v300 or later).  Users that have had the update performed by a Subaru dealer are again able to install their Accessport with updated firmware.  If you are running one of our COBB OTS maps with one of the impacted vehicles, we highly recommend that you update your car’s ECU to the appropriate v300 or later OTS map, even if your specific vehicle is not subject to Subaru’s recall.

Users that have a custom tune will need to contact their Protuner so they can advice you on the map update process for your scenario.  Updating a custom tune is only necessary if users wish to take advantage of Subarus newest ECU updates.  Please keep in mind that Protuners may be inundated with these requests so there may be a short wait to have a map file updated.  In the meantime, your current maps will still be usable.

  1. So you would recommend to update to v300 maps even if the vehicle wasn’t subject to recall?

Do I have uninstall and reinstall the AP?

    • You do not need to uninstall, we always recommend staying on the most up-to-date OTS files.

    • The factory calibrations are still meant to only be used with the factory intake system. These cars are extremely sensitive to intake modifications, we highly encourage tuning for aftermarket intakes.

  2. I have had my ECM flashed and corrected by the dealer and then reflashed my Stage 2 93 oct map back onto my WRX, my check engine light comes on and my cruise control light is flashing. When I read the code it says there is something wrong with the CAT system. I have a downpipe and exhaust system with no cat, but it has never given this error before updating to the most recent update.

    • Hey Eric, give our Customer Support team a call at 1-866-922-3059 or email [email protected] so we can help you get everything sorted out. Hopefully it’s just something as simple as flashing the wrong map.
