Flex Fuel for Subaru Forester XT and Legacy GT
Nearly three years ago, we released our first true Flex Fuel conversion solution for the 2008-2014 Subaru WRX and STI. Since then, our Subaru team has developed the same complete turn-key solutions for the 2015-2019 WRX and expanded support through the 2019 STI. Amidst that work, we’ve been fielding a ton of requests from the Subaru Forester XT and Legacy GT/Outback XT crowds. Today, we’re excited to announce that a turn-key Flex Fuel solution is now available for select Forester XT and Legacy GT vehicles. Parts are available individually and as Flex Fuel Packages.

This kit includes all of the hardware necessary to convert your 2005-2009 Legacy GT or Outback XT (MT) to Flex Fuel. Quick-connect fittings adapt seamlessly to the factory fuel lines. Monitoring fuel pressure will alert users if there is a fault in the vehicle’s fuel system. Utilizing existing inputs, the Fuel Pressure Sensor Kit allows users to monitor Fuel Pressure on a custom Accessport monitor.

What’s different about a 2007 Legacy GT and a 2007 Legacy GT spec.B that the compatibility isn’t there for the B?
She’s parked till spring, but I need to know if there’s something preventing me from moving forward on my spec.B in the spring?

We have not yet been able to bring in a Spec B of each model year to confirm fitment however we do believe we have parts available to support them. Hopefully by the time you’re ready to order we have all Spec Bs covered.

I have an 06 Forester XT Automatic and was wondering why your flex fuel kit is listed as for Manual transmission only?

While the mechanical parts will fit, we currently offer Flex Fuel logic on Manual ECUs only. We’re recording requests for Automatic transmission support and will re-evaluate that support in the future. Can I put you down as a formal request for 2006 FXT AT Flex Fuel support?

We hear ya and if possible we’d have flex fuel for everything but there is only so many hours in the day. So it’s something we are certainly looking into but it’s difficult to balance all of our various projects with limited resources. We’ll just have to see how things work out in the future, stay in touch.

I have a 2009 Forester XT with 4eat running e85. I had to upgrade pump, injectors, and intercooler. I also have a 2013 Forester with 4eat and would like to have the same capability. Is this one in R&D?
Hey Dennis, we do not currently have plans to support the Automatic Forester XTs and Legacy GTs with Flex Fuel. That being said, with enough demand we can definitely reconsider. You mention you’re running straight E85 on the 2009 FXT, would you be interested in a Flex Fuel setup for both the 2009 and 2013?

I run e85 in my 2011 FXT. I would love to have a flex fuel option from cobb. Testing fuel and loading different tunes is getting old especially in the winter. I hope there is enough demand for cobb to consider this in the future.

That would be great. I would pre-order something like this if it ever comes about. My FXT is the 4EAT like all USDM XT’s, unfortunately.
I have an 11 FXT with auto currently making 360 on e85 and I’m also tired of swapping maps. Would LOVE to get some Cobb flex love on this thing like I have for my other subis.

Yes, please. You may also wish to offer a kit with upgraded fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, head studs, and head gaskets for this conversion.
Would really like to see Flex fuel for the 04-05 Forester XTs. As an active member in the Subaru community I’ve seen many requests for flex fuel with Auto transmissions. Many of us are in the 12s reliably, and some low-mid 11s in the 1/4 with stock component autos (mine has sport shift, gear holding, and the significantly stronger VTD center differential), and IPT makes built transmissions that hold even more power. Having owned several 5MT and Auto FXTs, the autos are very capable vehicles with a few simple remedies, and flex fuel would be great. Thanks,

I would also like to see Flex Fuel for the 04 AT FXT. Since becoming involved in the Subaru community, I have seen the benefits that come with Flex Fuel and it would be incredible if Cobb reached a bigger audience by adding support for the automatic transmission Forester XT and Legacy GT.

Is there any interest in 04 FXT manual? I noticed the kit for the 05 FXT. I have 6an fuel fittings/lines.
I have a 2010 Forester XT with 4eat and would love some R&D on a flex fuel kit for my Gen FXT w/ auto trans. Don’t want the headache of switching maps for different fuels. Plus this kit would prevent my non-gearhead wife from forgetting to switch the map after a fill up.

I have an 05 auto fxt that I’m about to convert to manual. The process involves grounding out a pin in the auto ecu to trick it into thinking it’s a manual trans.
Will the 05 fxt mt flex fuel kit work with a auto converted to manual ecu?
In order to utilize Flex Fuel, you’ll need the ECU to be running a ROM that supports it. I’m not certain if the Auto ECU can be reprogrammed with a Manual ROM or if you’d need to swap an actual Manual ECU into the car.

I have an 08 Legacy gt 5eat. Currently running a closed deck block with 100mm pistons, BC272 and +1 valves with HD springs. Have the GT3076R turbo and ETC FMIC. Currently running ID 1700cc and a flex fuel kit would definitely give me more room. Please put me down for a formal request for flex fuel on the 08 Legacy gt 5eat.
