History of the Subaru Forester XT
Coming into the late 90’s, Subaru scoffed at the idea of making a minivan to conform with the rest of the manufacturers, opting instead to take the proven Impreza chassis and throwing an all new body on top. And from that, the Forester was born!
After multiple years of success with the initial generation, Subaru did a copy/paste on the formula for the second and 3rd generations starting in 2004, this time making sure to include the turbocharged WRX. This new model donned the Forester XT name. Using the 2.0L Turbocharged engine and then 2.5L Turbo in the later years.
In 2009, an all new iteration of the 2.5L Forester XT arrived stateside, this time with a bigger body and opting to offer the automatic transmission as an exclusive and killing off the manual transmission along with some enthusiasts happiness.
In 2014, Subaru flipped the script introducing the direct-injected FA20 engine coupled with a CVT transmission which would eventually found the following year in the 2015 Subaru WRX.
