COBB Tuning AccessPORT Firmware Updates for All Subaru Models

COBB Tuning is happy to announce the first in a series of major Subaru AccessPORT updates that are planned for roll-out over during the first quarter of 2011.

This AccessPORT update includes a huge expansion and improvement in the list of data monitors available for Data Logging and Live Data viewing. AccessPORT navigation improvements have been added to effortlessly maneuver through the large menu of new data channels. Map storage has been increased to handle up to 100 unique calibrations. These improvements, and others explained below, are just the beginning of an impressive line-up of updates that will keep the AccessPORT at the cutting edge of Subaru tuning!

Improved Data Monitor lists and Expanded Monitors

The list of available monitors has been greatly expanded to significantly improve the AccessPORT’s data monitoring and data logging capability. All monitors are now alphabetized for easier navigation. In addition, data monitor names are shown in the screen header when a monitor is selected. For a list of expanded monitors, please see the Subaru Monitor Updates and Definitions Guide.

Universal AccessPORT Navigation Improvements

All AccessPORTs now feature improved menu navigation with a faster, more responsive menu, continuous scrolling and wrap around navigation. Holding the scrolling keys down will automatically scroll through all current menu options without the need to keep pressing the  button repeatedly. When reaching the bottom of the menu list, the current menu will automatically wrap around to the top of the menu.  Menus also redraw faster, meaning scrolling though each menu is faster than ever before. These updates improve AccessPORT responsiveness and usability!

Increased MAP Storage

All AccessPORTs now feature a sizable increase in map storage. Subaru AccessPORTs have capacity for up to 100 unique calibrations. The AccessPORT can now carry all your custom calibrations as well as OTS calibrations and non-performance calibrations without issue! This also eliminates occurrences of the AccessPORT freezing when too many maps were installed.

Demo Mode

AP-SUB-001 and AP-SUB-002 AccessPORTs now have a demo mode that shows most AccessPORT functions while plugged into a USB port. Demo mode enables users to setup the AP in a state which allows tasks to be viewed. Emulate installing the AccessPORT, view Live Data, Data Logging, Performance Measurement, etc. If Demo mode is left idle for 1 minute, a screen saver is displayed until a navigation button is pushed. This is a great way to show others the functionality of the AccessPORT without it needing to be plugged into the OBD-II port in the vehicle.

Uninstall Screen

The AccessPORT “Uninstall” menu option now has its own menu screen on the main menu. This change is to address the issue of users attempting to uninstall the AccessPORT and instead flashing a like-stock calibration on the ECU, leaving the AccessPORT in an installed state. Installing and Uninstalling your AccessPORT is now easier than ever.

Bug Fixes

Several data monitor updates have been included to correct erroneous monitor displays and remove non-applicable data monitors. This will provide more accurate data presentation and eliminate the confusion associated with attempting to display monitors that were unavailable on some vehicles.

Updates for the COBB Tuning AccessPORT for all Subaru models are now available through AccessPORT Manager 2.0. These updates improve and speed-up AccessPORT navigation as well as address map storage, data monitoring and datalogging bugs. This is a mandatory update for all AccessTUNER Race users.

  1. Give us some useful driveability features like LC/FFS.
I’d rather be driving my Subaru than playing with the new AP menu. Why a demo mode? Spend the time on LC/FFS.

    • The Subaru engineering team is busy working on a new version of LC/FFS that will be available in the future. This latest update adds some behind the scenes coding that will allow us to update functionality and support more easily! The demo mode has been added to all AccessPORTs across the board.

  2. I agree with Charles, the LC/FFS is one of the main reason I purchased the Accessport for my 2009 wrx sedan. Its now 2011 and its still not complete. Seriously weak! Demo modes are for sellers not users. Every tuner I have gone to said ditch the Accessport and go open source. Focus on the LC/FFS then send out mass emails with updates about what you have done since the release of the half usable Accessport!

    • @ Charles/Russ/Andrew

We understand your frustration and are not ignoring the many requests we have been receiving for LC and FFS. The latest Subaru AccessPORT firmware and software releases were major behind-the-scenes updates that were necessary prerequisites to allow us to implement new features such as LC and FFS. The new demo mode was rolled out across all AccessPORT platforms and is not Subaru specific, meaning that the inclusion of this feature did not impact the development of LC and FFS in any way.

Our Subaru engineers are working very hard to bring Subaru enthusiasts like yourselves the features and functionality that are being asked for.

  3. Fine, then give us an ETA on LC/FFS the ‘demo’ mode smells like low hanging fruit. Lets get the features out that folks Need/want rather than items you see that can be easily added.

  4. How does the lc/ffs work on the 09-10 sti models but doesnt work on the 11 and its same motor, and the aem tunes work in 11 sti but wont work in the 09-10sti???

    • LC/FFS is currently being reworked and we will have a new version available in the future. We have updated our map database so that all 2008+ STIs and WRXs have stage1 and stage2 maps for stock, SF and AEM intakes!

  5. my AP is stuck in this demo mode when I turn it on. It just displays the cobb car and does not do anything. Any suggestions??

    • Cesar, power cycling the Accessport should kick it out of Demo mode. If you continue to have issues with it, contact our CSR team at 1-866-922-3059 and we’ll get you taken care of! – Marshall@COBB

  6. Hi, my accessport is stuck on the first screen you see. before it would only freeze once in a while, now it seems nothing i do can get it past the first screen, nor can i get the ap manager on my comp to read a connection to the ap. help?

    • Hey Matt, that totally depends on what updates are being applied. In some cases we do include new Off The Shelf Maps in firmware updates which improve overall power output or power delivery. If that is the case it will be explicitly called out in the update notes.
