2017 Subaru Forester XT Support

The COBB Accessport now supports the 2017 Subaru Forester XT!  A simple firmware update to the already available SUB-004 Accessport will add compatibility for Subaru’s current model year SUV.  CLICK HERE for a firmware update how-to.  Similar to previous model year support, Off The Shelf Maps are limited to Stage 1 for either 91 or 93 octane fuel.  Additional information regarding Off The Shelf maps can be found on the Map Notes Page.

Power Gains

Even with no mechanical changes, the Forester XT responds very well to tuning with the Stage 1 OTS Maps!  Large gains are seen across the entire power band and driveability is greatly improved.

  1. I am doing some research on aftermarket intercooler’s and am leaning towards the AVO TOP MOUNT INTERCOOLER, direct fit, less restriction etc.. My question, what affect will this installation have with the AP’s stage 1 tune with no other aftermarket parts installed.

    • Hey Peter, with the upgraded intercooler you should definitely notice decreased charge air temperatures which could lead to less knock and potentially a bit of a bump in power. The Stage 1 OTS map will not take full advantage of the cooler charge air temperatures however there wouldn’t be any adverse affects.

  2. How badly is this tune thought to cook the CVT? I am hesitant to tune because of it. Also, does the tune address the CVT shifting in any fashion? Is it possible to get a halfway respectable launch in my car without breaking things?

    • Hey Ben, our experience has indicated that CVT reliability is not significantly impacted at the Stage 1 power level. Beyond the Stage 1 power level we have definitely seen an increase in chances of failure.

  3. Hi Marshall, what are the actual expected power gains for the Stage 1 tune at 93 octane? Also, not sure if you answered Ben’s question above regarding trouble with the CVT shifting. Are there any concerns with the CVT shifting improperly?

    • Hey Aaron, you can always find actual power numbers on our Dyno Database. We tend to advertise in percentage gains as actual dyno numbers will vary slightly from dyno to dyno. (More on that HERE).

Here is the dyno chart from our 2015 FXT, the 2017 FXT uses the same hardware and calibration data so the gains should be nearly identical.

At the Stage 1 power level there is no additional concern around the functionality of the CVT. We have definitely seen issues with slipping/shuddering when increasing power beyond the Stage 1 level.

    • Hi John,

I need some clarification. We do not make an intake for the 2017 FXT. For that year model we only have the Stage1 maps for a stock intake. Any additional mods will require custom tuning via an approved Protuner with the Accessport.

  4. Hello Marshall, this is going to be my set up here shortly. 2017 subaru forester xt cvt. Do you feel this may push the limits of the cvt power threshold after a tune?

    Thank you.

    • Hey Matthew,

It really comes down to the tuning style. At this point, I think most of our Protuners are familiar enough with the CVT vehicles and are able to manage torque appropriately. While the engine will certainly be able to produce more torque than the CVT can handle, it can be dialed back.

  5. I installed my cobb accessport on my 2017 Subaru xt, and after driving it for about an hour it went into limp mode. I had to uninstall the accessport to get out of limp mode. Why do you think this happened? The car is stock. Thanks!

    • Hi Chris,

It’s tough to say. If you give us a call at 866-922-3059 with more details, we can help you troubleshoot.
