Ford Raptor F-150 TCM Flashing Now Available!

Transmission tuning is now available for Gen2 Ford F150 Raptors using COBB Accessport tuning!  After endless hours of R&D effort and real-world testing, it’s finally here!  You can now upgrade your Accessport to flash the TCM with your choice of Off The Shelf maps or have it custom tuned by a Protuner.  The upgrade includes various Off The Shelf transmission tunes which adjust shift points, shift firmness, skip shift behavior, and torque limits to fit your preferred driving requirements.

The goal of these maps is to improve transmission behavior overall.  Improve can mean various things depending on your goals.  With that in mind, there are three off the shelf TCM maps to choose from: Simulated Stock, OEM+, and Sport.  These maps can be gained by adding TCM Flashing to your existing Accessport or buying an Accessport with TCM Flashing.

TCM OTS Maps

Simulated Stock

Ford has spent considerable time and effort to improve the operation of the 10R80 and we have chosen to inherit those changes as the foundation for our TCM maps.  Simulated Stock mode is a replica of the factory data present on the 19 model year Raptor.  This will be the same as the stock map for the 19 model year but be a significant improvement for 2017 – 2018 model year Raptors.  Among other improvements, 2017 – 2018 model year owners can expect the notoriously harsh ‘Sport’ mode 4-5 shift to be fixed using this and all other COBB TCM maps!

COBB OEM+

The COBB OEM+ map is intended to be a sporty but refined improvement on the stock transmission behavior.

  • Shift Points: Details shown below.
  • Shift Firmness: moderately increased shift firmness during high-power, high-RPM shifts in ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ drive modes.
  • Upshift Backout: upshift inhibit (zero APP gear-holding) in ‘Sport’ mode following high-power acceleration and throttle backout has been disabled. Stock behavior would inhibit upshift until pedal position is re-applied above ~10%.  Instead of this holding the gear and maintaining a high RPM, an upshift will occur for a smoother driving experience.
  • Torque Limits: increased torque limits for more aggressive launches and acceleration.

COBB Sport

The COBB Sport map is intended to be a performance-first improvement on the stock transmission behavior.

  • Shift Points: Details shown below.
  • Shift Firmness: increased shift firmness during moderate to high-power shifts in ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ drive modes.
Comparison

The factory ECU uses transmission Output Shaft Speed (OSS) for shift schedule tables along with Accelerator Pedal Position (APP).  The graphs below translate the OSS to vehicle speed (assuming stock tire size and diff. gearing) and show the shift schedules based on APP (x-axis) and Vehicle Speed (y-axis).  This allows you to see how shifting behavior operates at a given vehicle speed and throttle input.

The greatest takeaway from the schedule graphs above are the changes in upshifts.  Shift points are moderately increased for sportier acceleration with the COBB OEM+ map and further increased with the COBB Sport map.  The window for skip shifts is also narrower between for the OEM+ map compared to the Stock map.  For the COBB Sport map, skip shifts are eliminated except for 1 > 3 shifts in low speed and light throttle situations.  There are also more responsive downshift schedules and more anticipatory coastdown (off-power) shift schedules.  This allows smoother driving experience in off throttle situations and when slowing to a stop.

TCM Tuning Activation:

Accessports with TCM flashing are now available on their own or with as part of a COBB Stage Package shown below.  For those that already have Accessports, adding TCM flashing is as easy as a quick transaction with our CSR team.  Contact the COBB Tuning customer service team via phone at 866-922-3059 or email [email protected] for details on how to upgrade the Accessport to include this feature.

Additional Notes

COBB’s performance transmission maps have focused ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ drive modes for performance driving and have not been optimized for towing.  Always switch the vehicle’s drive mode to “Tow” mode when hauling a trailer.

All COBB Raptor TCM maps are built for a stock 10R80 with a stock converter and clutch packs.

Tuning is not a replacement for maintenance.  Make sure to follow recommended service procedure intervals.
