HBSpeed, respected tuners of all things Subaru, have joined into the Time Attack fray with a brand new Street Class Mitsubishi Evolution X. Sporting all wheel drive and a turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, the EVO X is a capable and seriously quick performance machine. Right out of the box the EVO packs a potent punch of big horsepower and neutral handling. But if you want to be competitive in Time Attack, you can’t just show up to the track with any showroom stock car. You have to be armed with a little something extra.

Even though the street class mandates a full interior and that the cars remain more or less street cars, HBSpeed has added some serious performance modifications to give the already-powerful-EVO X even more go. The modifications are not overly exotic, but the car is still capable of putting down 400whp to the ground. This is done on a stock engine tuned with the COBB AccessPORT.

Other modifications include a COBB Intercooler hard pipe kit, COBB SF Intake system and COBB Turbo Inlet Tube. An ETS front mount keeps the intake charge cold and condensed. The stock turbo spits exhaust gasses out of a 3-inch turboback exhaust system.

Handling upgrades are essential to cope with all the extra power. To that end a set of KW coilovers were installed along with a set of 18-inch Enkei NT03+M wheels and Yokohama Neova tires, which help keep this muscular Evolution firmly planted around quick bends.

When this car isn’t leading the pack around the racetracks of Southern California, HBSpeed owner and head tuner John Drenas uses the car as his daily driver. That is the beauty of the street class; truly powerful and capable street cars can double as race cars on the weekend. All you need is a helmet on your head and a race map loaded on your AccessPORT.
