Rennsport One Takes 2nd Place at Circuit of the Americas 120
Rennsport One (RS1), a COBB Authorized Protuner and Dealer, campaigns three Porsche Cayman race cars in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching any of the races thus far, we highly encourage tuning into FS1 for upcoming races. A TV and streaming schedule can be found on IMSA’s website. Sports Car racing tends to have some very exciting battles and that has held true so far this season. The cars in this series mostly started life as and are as close as you’ll find to traditional street cars. Much of what we learn through Motorsport finds it’s way into COBB products and calibrations across all of our platforms.
RS1’s #28 Porsche Cayman GT4-MR is right in the thick of the Grand Sport (GS) Class standings and the #17 and #18 987.2 Caymans are a force to be reckoned with in the Street Tuner (ST) Class. The #17 car is looking to become the first ever repeat winner of both Driver and Team Championships after clinching both in the 2016 season. Earlier this month the team was here in Austin, TX for the Circuit of the Americas 120, part of the Advanced Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown. While the GS class is locked down and does not allow aftermarket ECU tuning, both of the RS1 ST cars are utilizing the COBB Accessport for tuning.
Drivers Spencer Pumpelly and Nick Galante were able to pilot the #17 car to a 2nd in the ST class after an extremely tight battle with the #56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman. The #18 car driven by Aurora Straus and Connor Bloum suffered an unfortunate spin with some help from one of the McLarens early on and was forced to bow out early after a second on-track racing incident resulting in significant suspension damage. RS1’s #28 GT4-MR barely missed the podium, finishing in 4th place.
If you have two hours to spare and enjoy watching some exciting sportscar racing, you can now watch the full broadcast of the race on the IMSA Website.
