Swift and Salty

If you follow the Subaru tuning community or Global Time Attack lately you’re probably aware of the “power couple” of Markos Mylonas and Sally McNulty. They’ve teamed up with the folks at Snail Performance and have been a consistent and competitive presence in the Time Attack Street class for several seasons. Sally has built a relationship with Hoonigan and also started her own YouTube series called Diaries of a Female Racer. The series will bounce back and forth between special upgrades to her race car and her daily driven 2017 STi for tips on the best mods and setup for a weekend warrior that still needs to get you to work on Monday.

So we figured now would be a good chance to have a fun Q&A session with Sally so people can get to know her a little better and we can show her some love as a big ambassador of the COBB brand.

Real Question Time:
  1. Q:  When and how did you first get into cars as a hobby?
A:  I always had an interest in cars since I was the only girl out of 3 boys.
  1. Q:  Why Subaru?
A: To be honest, I had never even paid attention to them till I started attending track days. I noticed that they were so customizable. Exhaust, body kits, wheels, brakes, power levels, the boxer rumble,  and needless to say but I had to have one of my own.
  1. Q:  How did you get teamed up with the folks at Snail Performance?
A: I actually met them at a Global Time Attack event back in 2013 and well we all hit it off. And the rest is history
  1. Q:  If you didn’t have Subarus as your daily and race car, what would you replace each with?
A: I would want an S2000!! They have a classic look that will always turn heads and not to mention they are fantastic track cars.
  1. Q:  What does 2018 have in store for Sally and friends aside from the YouTube series?
A: Team Sally has several events we will be attending across the Country with Global Time Attack and Gridlife, From Road Atlanta to Gingerman Raceway to New Jersey Motorsports Park. In the Global Time Attack Series, we will be competing in Street AWD Class with our Racecar but also Enthusiast AWD with my 2017 daily driven STi!  Also, we will be dropping a new #teamsally shirt,  a collab with Motolyric and will be dropped this week! 1. Q:  Who is more important to your racing….Carl….or Snail Performance?
A: That is a loaded question. Hahahaha I live with Carl da Corgi and he might poop on my pillow if I don’t say him, but Snail does that “+ key” action on the Dyno so………They are both very important in their own way!

Sally Pic Carl Sally Pic Lucy
  1. Q:  Do you follow other racing series as a fan?
A: I’m a big fan of Jordan Taylor of Cadillac Racing. He not only is a phenomenal driver but his IG feed is 10/10!
  1. Q:  Do you think you might try other types of performance driving in the future, like rally, drag, or drifting?
A: I seriously down to try ANY type of performance driving, if someone would give me the chance I would jump at it.  I would love to check out rally, like at Dirt Fish and/or learn to drift! I feel like I have good car control skills and would be able to grasp the concept pretty fast.
  1. Q:  What advice would you give to someone that wants to get into Time Attack?
    A:
My advice is to sign up for a track day. Find a track event with instructors available on site to help you and sign up. You won’t be sorry.
  1. Q:  What kind of skill or knowledge do you want to improve on in the future?
A: I am always looking to improve myself but help others which in turn helps me. I have been wanting to set up a female track driving school. Where I do one on one training with another female. Show them proper seat, mirror, and hand placement. As well as braking zones and track lines. They will be able to see their improvement from the beginning to the end of the day and most importantly feel more comfortable in their own car on track. I want to show other ladies that it isn’t a man’s hobby and they can have fun too! I feel like this would be a real hit.
  1. Q:  What is your favorite story from a track event?
A: My favorite story from the race track was when I beat Markos……….JK that hasn’t happened YET! Hahah! My favorite story would probably be when I helped a fellow racer to drop 5 seconds off his lap times with a few pointers. He put down a new personal best time and he was so excited to tell me how much better the car felt and that it really boosted his confidence.
  1. Q:  What do you do when not working, racing, or wrenching?
    A: Hahahaha nothing JK
Markos and I really love bowling. I’m not that great at it but I’m getting better. My best game so far was a 165. And working towards a 200.
