Toyo tire ad + COBB EVO X

Coming soon to a magazine near you! We’re really honored to have Toyo using one of our demo cars in their ad campaign for the Toyo Proxes tires. We’ve been nothing but extremely happy with their R888 tires. So much so that ALL of our demo cars that see ANY track use now use them. For those of you that know us, that’s saying a lot. We’re a picky bunch...

Mazdaspeed3 AccessPORT

After much anticipation, the AccessPORT is now available for the Mazdaspeed3. Aside from purely a performance standpoint, the tuning provided with the AccessPORT significantly improves driving quality and fuel economy. Reflashing takes just a few minutes and we have dyno tuned maps available for stock cars all the way to full turboback exhaust + intake modifications. In addition, you can view Live Data from sensors all over the engine, measure...

Performance Nissan Meet

On the road again… This past weekend Dave, Joe and Billy went to the Performance Nissan meet out in San Bernardino, CA. Many thanks to Andy and the rest of the Performance Nissan/MyNismo.com crew for hosting the event. It was a great time and a good opportunity to get to know more Nissan enthusiasts. Nissan even brought out one of their North American-spec GT-R test vehicles for display. It’s too...

AccessPORT : Virtual Dyno feature

This feature is still in beta, but it’s coming along very nicely. Using a complex algorithm originally derived from a SAE paper we referenced, the AccessPORT can datalog key parameters from your ECU as you drive to determine peak HP and Torque (at the wheels). This takes into account everything from different gear ratios, Lose Weight Exercises, and aerodynamic profiles of the various vehicles we support. Initially it’ll be available...

EVO X : Turbo Inlet

We just finished up the first article of our turbo inlet for the new EVO X. This is to replace the factory piece between the factory MAF/Airbox and the turbocharger. The goal is to improve air flow into the turbocharger and improve efficiency. Basically free HP without pushing the engine or turbocharger harder in order to gain it. Our design utilizes a steel coil reinforced multi-ply silicone tubing that an...

EVO X : Intake Testing

A few posts ago we showed some pictures of our EVO X and various parts under development. With the engine finally fully broken in now, we were able to do some testing and finalize the design of a few parts including our SF Intake. Below is a dyno graph of our results from the SF Intake testing. Most of the gains come by way of leaning out the A/F mixture....

R35 Manuals

In my opinion, Japanese car manuals have the BEST illustrations. Here are a few memorable ones from the new R35 GT-R manual. First up, a nice reminder not to let your soda can get behind your brake pedal. A bad situation in ANY vehicle! If you’re unlucky enough to have your new R35 break down on a train track, use your included flare to alert the train operator. (Who thinks...

EVO X – Catback prototype cat-back

Josh and team have been working hard on our new EVO X exhaust system. After polling many people, and a lot of internal discussion, we decided on the ‘quad tip’ style as it fit the look of the new EVO and would be a bit different from the 4″ round duals everyone seems to be doing. I really love how this setup flows with the lines of the rear bumper....

RX-8 AccessPORT – Teaser

It’s going to be a busy month. The Mazda RX-8 AccessPORT is near completion. It’s off to beta testers as we speak… A long time coming, and of course there are a few naysayers but the reality is… it’s coming. SOON. Check out the teaser video Jaron put together. Breaking in new engines

Justin and Billy spent a good portion of their weekend on the dyno helping to break in our new demo cars; the 2008 STi and 2008 EVO X. The cars are run on the dyno to regularly vary load and engine RPM. Admittedly, we’re a bit anal about properly breaking in the engines for our development vehicles. And why not be? Plus, it won’t stop #*&^#@$ snowing here in Utah...

Koutsu Anzen Omamori

Something wicked this way comes… That’s the only hint I’ll give. To protect it on its journey, I requested that our contact in Japan pick up a Koutsu Anzen omamori and place in it the shipping container. In typical fashion, he went above expectations and went to the famous Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine to have one blessed for a safe journey of our precious cargo. I’m personally not an overly spiritual...

2008 EVO X Development Car

On Monday night (Jan 21) we picked up a new R&D car, a wicked white EVO X GSR (5-speed). As seen in previous blog entries here, we’ve been ramping up and anticipating our opportunity to develop parts and tuning for the all new EVO. Of course before we get started, all the control data must be first collected. Changing parts for the sake of changing parts isn’t our specialty, we...

Japan Trip : Part Two – Cusco

For the second half of my trip to Japan, I’d scheduled some testing at Cusco’s R&D facility in Takasaki. Located in central Gunma, getting to Takasaki is an easy one hour ride from Tokyo station on a bullet train (shinkansen). SEMA 2007 – Wrap up

SEMA 2007 is finally over and we’ve thankfully survived another year. This year we wanted the focus to be placed on the innovative and high quality products we develop, rather than some random race project. Overall, I think it was highly successful. In addition to some of the new product concepts we unveiled, the other big news we had to announce was our recent partnership with the MSD Performance group...

Preparing for SEMA – Mazdaspeed3

An interesting bit of trivia… so far this month our SF Intake for the Mazdaspeed3 has been more popular (in sales) than the WRX, a regular top ten popular product. Yes, it’s a limited production model but obviously there is a lot of enthusiasm amongst its owners. Our Mazdaspeed3 will be at SEMA this year, displaying a host of parts such as our AccessPORT, Turboback exhaust, Front-Mounted Intercooler, Sports Springs,...
